Book prices are outrageously high in Aotearoa. A paperback that costs $15 in the States costs upwards of $30 here. The rate of exchange is not 2:1. So what’s going on here?

There are no major publishing outlets in New Zealand, so they jack up the price of books. Sorry, but that is absolute bullcrap. I don’t see why a global publishing outfit like Penguin or Harper-Collins doesn’t set up an outlet here. But they don’t so I’m stuck either ordering enough books from Amazon UK to make it worth the shipping cost, or paying through the nose for the imports they shelve in bookstores.
