Lollies. The universal Kiwi word for “sweets.”
Hard candy, such as lollipops, are quite obviously lollies. But locals even consider things like chocolate candy bars and marshmallows to be lollies. This doesn’t quite make sense to me.
My sister, who attends college (which is high school back in the States), says that her friends will even refer to baked goods like cookies and brownies as lollies (when they’re not called bickies, which is short for biscuits).
So… Lolly: the New Zealand word for candy.
