I love this Auckland-based band for their cheerful folk instrumentals and breezy hooks that make you want to sing along. Initially started as a solo project by Dave Baxter, the experiment became way more successful than he anticipated. (Seriously. His first album, Our New Life Above the Ground, was available for free download online.)
The lineup features an interesting instrument selection, including a “manjo” (mandolin-banjo), glockenspeil, and piano accordion. These guys rock in the original sense of the word. As a lover of all things folk from Bob Dylan to Frontier Ruckus, these guys get mad props from me.
